OCN Level 3 mediation
The course is aimed at individuals who wish to acquire or develop a full knowledge of mediation principles and the application and use of skills within mediation processes and who will probably have the aim of becoming practising mediators through the completion of Unit 4 – Mediation Practice.
This six day course requires attendance on all days and is run over two, three day sessions.
The course covers:
Days 1, 2 and 3: looks in depth at the knowledge and application of mediation principles and the seven stages of mediation and explores the skills required through exercises and role play.
Days 4, 5 and 6: builds on the skills learnt over the first three days through further exercises and role plays using realistic mediation scenarios. On the last day your mediation skills are assessed.
There is a gap of approximately a month between the sessions to enable you to complete a workbook, this will demonstrate that you have understood and can apply the theory of mediation. This must be completed on time to progress to Days 4-6.
Following practical assessment there is a further workbook to complete, once this has been returned providing you have met all criterias laid down by OCN Level 3 Units 1 (Interpersonal communication within the mediation process); Unit 2 (Initial meeting with mediation clients) & Unit 3 (Mediation sessions between parties, joint party mediation ) you will be awarded a Mediation Skills certificate.
At the end of the training you will have developed a basic level of skills, knowledge and understanding of mediation principles and processes. Be able to demonstrate competence in preparing and carrying out an initial assessment of appropriateness of a case for mediation. Be able to demonstrate competence in preparing and carrying out a joint mediation process between disputing parties. You will also be self aware in personal responses to conflicting situations and demonstrate an ability to operate as an impartial third person in the context of a dispute
